Highclere Stud welcomes first foals of 2009

THE first foals born at Highclere Stud in 2009 have been announced.

A half-brother to the Group 2-placed Smirk and stakes winner Stetchworth Prince was the first arrival. He is one of the first foals by Jeremy, who retired to the Irish National Stud last year, and is out of the Highclere mare Elfin Laughter, a 17-year-old daughter of Alzao.

The second newcomer, a son of the stud's resident stallion Motivator, was born last night. He is out of the stakes-placed Woodman mare Queen Of Norway, who was bought by John Warren for $400,000 at Keeneland in 2001.
