Paco Boy to begin stud career at £8,500

BRILLIANT miler Paco Boy will begin his stallion career at Highclere Stud in Berkshire next year at a fee of £8,500, with October 1 terms, special live foal.

The stud is also offering a free lifetime breeding right to Paco Boy to the breeder of the horse’s first Group winner.

The five-year-old signed off his stellar career with an honourable close fourth to Goldikova in Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Mile at Churchill Downs, despite losing ground on the final bend.

Highclere Stud owner John Warren said yesterday: "Paco Boy’s performance in the race was quiteastonishing. He was last turning into the straight and flew for the last two furlongs, recording one of the fastest ever splits in the 27-year history of any Breeders’ Cup race. He broke the 11-second barrier in the final furlong, which has hardly ever been done at the Breeders’ Cup before."

Paco Boy retires with a record of eight Group race wins, including three at the highest level: the Prix de la Foret at three, the Queen Anne Stakes at four and the Lockinge Stakes this year. "He proved time and time again how remarkable he was against some of the best milers in the world," Warren added.

Paco Boy is by Desert Style, a son of outstanding sire of sires Green Desert, and Warren said: “We are thrilled to be standing a good-looking grandson of Green Desert who we hope could be as successful as other stallions from that line such as Invincible Spirit or Oasis Dream."

Paco Boy’s trainer Richard Hannon said: "I am certainly looking forward to having a few of Paco’s first crop, and if he can pass on some of his attributes to his progeny then he ought to prove very popular at stud."
