Dragon Dancer retired
to stud in France

DRAGON Dancer, who narrowly failed to pull off a 66/1 upset when a short head second to Sir Percy in the 2006 Derby, willstand at Haras de la Roseraie in France next season at a fee of €2,000.

Although Dragon Dancer lined up in the Derby as a maiden, the Geoff Wragg-trained son of Sadler's Wells had some useful form to his name, notably a second place in the Group 3 Chester Vase.

Following his short head defeat at Epsom, Dragon Dancer ran fourth Irish Derby to Dylan Thomas and second in the Group 2 Prix Eugene Adam at Maisons-Laffitte.

He broke his maidenin the Listed August Stakes at Windsor the following season before running third in the Group 2 Prix Foy.

Dragon Dancer is the best runner to date out of the winning Hernando mare Alakananda, a half-sister to the Group 1-winning pair Albanova and Alborada.

In addition, he hails from one of the most active families around as a descendant of Alruccaba, the ancestress of Group 1 winners Aussie Rules, Allegretto, Yesterday and Quarter Moon.
