Report: Kempton, Saturday

Racing Post Weekender Pendil Novices' Chase (Grade 2) 2m4½f, 5yo+

AN exquisite round of jumping from Herecomesthetruth saw him run out a tidy winner at Kempton on Saturday.

Peeling off good jump after good jump, Herecomesthetruth briefly looked like he may be challenged by Au Courant down the straight, but bold leaps at the final two fences saw him scamper away to success.

Au Courant was second and last at 12-1 after chase debutant Premier Des Marais fell on the back straight second time round.

Walsh said: "All he does is jump and he doesn't do a jot in front."

Winning part-owner Paul Barber said: "He's quirky but the best jumper I have had. As a jumper he doesn't make mistakes."

Fellow part-owner Harry Findlay said: "Ruby was keener on sticking to the new novice chase at Aintree, but this is a Battle Of Britain horse - he wins it in the air - and I'd find a cut at the big fences in the Topham Chase hard to resist."

He is out of the non-winning Roselier mare Beagan Rose, also the dam of Out In Front, the winner of two hurdle races. She also has a four-year-old filly by Fourstars Allstar, a three-year-old filly by Turtle Island, a two-year-old colt by Flemensfirth and a yearling filly by Flemensfirth.

Herecomesthe truth was bred by Thomas Cassidy and was consigned as a foal and a yearling at Tattersalls Ireland were he was bought for €15,00 and €18,000, bothtimes by a cash buyer.

He was then sent to the Doncaster Spring Sale in 2005 by Vere Phillips where,  in a rare jumping purchase, he was bought by Richard Frisby Bloodstock for 24,000gns.

Owned then by MrsFindlay, he went point-to-pointing in Ireland as a five-year-old finishing a half-length second first-time-out at Carrigtwohill behind Big Fella Thanks (owned then by Paul Barber and a Listed handicap chase winner for Nicholls earlier this month) before winning at Ballyragget.
