First winner for
Pastoral Pursuits

JULY Cup winner Pastoral Pursuits was represented by his firstwinner on Thursday when the Kevin Ryan-trained Here Now And Why scored an all-the-way success in the 5f maiden at Ripon.

Saucy Girl, a daughter of fellow first season sire Footstepsinthesand, ran second.

The February-born colt, who was retained by his breeder, Susan McCarthy, for just €4,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale, had run a promising second to Archers Road on his debut in a maiden at Leicester two weeks ago.

He is the first foal out of the dual sprint winner Why Now, a Dansili half-sister to the Listed-placed In Question.

Here Now And Why isone of 67 juveniles from the first crop of Pastoral Pursuits, who has been represented by four other runners to date.

The son of Bahamian Bounty stands at The National Stud for £4,500.
