Healthy turnout for Hong Kong breeze-up

MORE than 350 people were present at Sha Tin on Sunday to watch the 24 lots catalogued to the Hong Kong International Breeze-Up Sale on March 19 go through their paces.

Nine horses purchased in Europe were on show as were five from Australia, six from New Zealand and two from America.

Lots on offer include a Hawk Wing gelding out of Irish champion Dazzling Park from the family of New Approach, a Giant's Causeway half-brother to Grade 1 winner Mass Media and a Danehill Dancer three-parts brother to the top-class miler Grey Lilas.

Problems have beset three horses purchased by the Hong Kong Jockey Club at the Keeneland September Sale. A false positive for Equine Influenza for one of the lots initially delayed their departure while a further flight delay meant they were two weeks late leaving America.

For quarantine reasons two of the three American lots breezed separately from the others. The third will breeze later this week after suffering from mild travel sickness.

The Hong Kong International Sale will take placein the parade ring of Sha Tin on Saturday on the eve of the Group 1 Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Derby.
