Dominant gives Cacique first UK or Irish winner

DOMINANT became the first winner in the UK or Ireland for Juddmonte first-season sire Cacique with afluent one-length victory in Wednesday's 7f maiden at Goodwood.

He was pipped to the post for the honour of being Cacique's first winner by Sorbon, a colt from the family of Workforce who was sold for £20,000 to Czech agent Tomas Janda at the DBS breeze-up sale.

Sorbon landed his connections a Racing Post Yearling Bonus and Breeze-up Bonus when winning a 7f maiden in Prague last month.

Dominant, owned by the Highclere Thoroughbred Racing Isinglass syndicate, is the first foal out of Es Que, a winning daughter of Inchinor from the further family of Party, winner of the 2006 Radley Stakes for Highclere.

Bred by Newhall Stud and consigned to Book 1 of the Tattersalls October yearling sale by Rathasker Stud, he was bought by John Warren for 95,000gns.

Cacique is a Grade 1-winning son of Juddmonte matriarch Hasili by Danehill, and so a brother to top-class Banks Hill, Dansili, Champs Elysees and Intercontinental.

Cacique may have retired to Banstead Manor Stud with impeccable credentials but in a cruel twist of fate, he is subfertile, meaning that there are only 30 registered two-year-olds by him in training this season.

His second and third crops are significantly smaller, and he has not been advertised for public use this year.
