Montmartre shows first signs of interest at stud

LAST year's impressive Grand Prix de Paris winner Montmartre, who has suffered from a lack of libido during his first season at the Haras National du Pin in Normandy, displayed his first signs of interest in covering last week, according to a report on

The French National Studs' president Jean Lesne and their managing director François Roche-Bruyn told the website: "On Wednesday, May 13, Montmartre mounted three mares in one day.

"Admittedly he did not cover them, but this is nevertheless a very encouraging sign. His libido problem is psychological and not physical – we are therefore very confident for the 2010 season."

Despite failing to successfully cover any mares to date, Montmartre has returned satisfactory sperm counts.

The 24 shares in the son of Montjeu that were reportedly sold to private breeders in under two hours, will remain valid for the 2010 breeding season.
