Trempolino stood down from stud duty at 27

TREMPOLINO, one of the elder statesmen of the European stallion ranks, has been retired from breeding at the Haras du Mezeray in Normandy.

The son of Sharpen Up defeated the likes of Reference Point, Tony Bin and Triptych in the 1987 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. He is 27 years old.

Trempolino began his stud career at Gainesway Farm in Kentucky but moved to Mezeray in 2000. He covered ten mares there this spring.

Trempolino's Group or Grade 1 winners include Dernier Empereur (Champion Stakes), Germany (Bayerisches Zuchtrennen and Grosser Preis von Baden), Snow Polina (Beverly D Stakes) and Valixir (Prix d'Ispahan and Queen Anne Stakes).

His best jumps performers are Bounce Back, Don't Be Shy and Franchoek.

His daughters are also extending his influence by producing top-level scorers such as Action This Day (Breeders' Cup Juvenile), Blue Canari (Prix du Jockey Club), Chelsea Rose (Moyglare Stud Stakes), Round Pond (Breeders' Cup Distaff and Acorn Stakes) and Wicked Style (Breeders' Futurity).

Mezeray has acquired Prix Morny winner Myboycharlie from the National Stud for next year.
