First stakes winner for Russian Blue

RUSSIAN BLUE, who stands at the Haras de la Haie Neuve in Normandy, was represented by his first stakes winner yesterday when his son Art Attack landed the Group 3 Clasico Congreve at San Isidro in Argentina.

Russian Blue was also sire of the third home, Great Storm.

A son of Danehill out of the Bering mare Soviet Artic, Russian Blue was bred by the Sangster family's Swettenham Stud and won the Listed Marble Hill Stakes and finished third in three Group 1 races - the Phoenix Stakes, the Prix Morny and the National Stakes - at two.

Initially retired to Haras d'Etreham, he was transferred to Haras de la Haie Neuve in 2009. He shuttles to Haras la Quebrada in Argentina.

Russian Blue's first European-bred crop of juveniles hit the track last year. Acording to Weatherbys' figures, none of his 13runners won a race but they achieved between them 14 place finishes.
