Dewhurst winner Milk It Mick gets off the mark

TUESDAY proved to be a red letter day for first-season sire Milk It Mick, as his two runners on the all-weather at Southwell produced his first ever winner plus a second placing.

Man Of My Word became Milk It Mick's first winner with an all-the-way victory in a class 5 nursery over 6f. In the next race, Italian Ice finished runner-up in a 5f selling stakes.

Man Of My Word, who was getting off the mark at the 11th attempt, is owned by his breeders Paul and Yvette Dixon. He is out of the winning Petardia mare Promised, who has also produced six-time all-weather winner Even Stevens.

Milk It Mick was also bred and owned by the Dixons. Initially trained by Jamie Osborne he was a shock winner of the 2003 Dewhurst Stakes, beating Three Valleys.

At five he was transferred to be trained by James Cassidy in America and there he landed the Grade 1 Frank E Kilroe Mile and finished third in the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic.

Milk It Mick, a son of Millkom, spent his first two seasons standing at Lone Oak Stud in Newmarket before one year at Hedgeholme Stud in County Durham. Last year he was moved to the Haras de la Foret in France, where he stands at a fee of €2,000 in 2012.
