Handicapper Conry tops low-key Ascot sale

FLAT handicapper Conry topped a low-key renewal of the Brightwells July sale at Ascot on Tuesday.

The auction lacked a star attraction such as Cinders And Ashes, the subsequent Supreme Novices' Hurdle winner who was knocked down for £72,000 here last year.

Conry, last seen finishing third at Beverley last month, was offered to dissolve a partnership and it was his co-owner Tim Birchall who had the winning bid at £16,000.

Gloucestershire trainer John O'Shea bought the only other five-figure horse, fair handicap hurdler Red Skipper, for £11,000. O'Shea also bought handicap chaser Tribal Dance for £6,500.

From 131 offered at the sale, 101 changed hands for turnover of around £135,000.
