Classy Opinion Poll a further tribute to Leigh

ANOTHER potentially high-class performer by Darley's Halling emerged on Wednesday in Opinion Poll, who put up a hugely impressive display to win the Listed Further Flight Stakes at Nottingham by an eased down four lengths.

Although bred by Darley, the Michael Jarvis-trained colt hails from a family famous for its association with the late Gerald Leigh.

His dam, Ahead, was placed at Group 3 and Listed level for Leigh and trainer Guy Harwood. Opinion Poll is her sixth runner to secure black-type following Grade 3 winner Horatia, Isadora, Capitano Corelli, Winsome and Smart Alec, a Group 3-placed son of Halling's sire Diesis who ran fourth in the 1996 Lockinge Stakes.

Ahead, who is by Shirley Heights, is a half-sister to Leigh's Queen Elizabeth II Stakes winner Markofdistinction and Listed winner Criquette, thedam of last season's Ribblesdale Stakes heroine Flying Cloud. Other immediate members of this family include Laverock, Salselon and Critique.
