Half-sister to Total Gallery could light up depressing day
GLOOMY conditionsand a far from vintage catalogue have done little to prevent many of the same faces from gathering at the Tattersalls February Sale in Newmarket today.
The traditional curtain raiser to Tattersalls' auction year has attracted 289 entries - over 20 of which are the result of a bad debt incurred during the final day of the Tattersalls December Sale.
Not taking his place in the sale is the Group 2 winner Pipedreamer, but several mares and fillies should be capable of grabbing the attention of buyers including Pinkabout (56), a half-sister to Carry On Katie who sold at the 2007 Tattersalls July Sale for 105,000gns, and Chrisalice (61), who cost 5,200gns at this sale in 2005 before her half-siblings Total Gallery and Lady Darshaan came on to the page.
The daughter of Lujain was brought back from Greece following the emergence of her Group 1-performing relatives and is set to sell around lunchtime.
However, the opening 30 minutes of trading have set a depressed tone to the sale; many of the people who filled the ring to watch the TBA stallion parade have disappeared, leaving no one in the gate, and only two of the first nine through the ring have attracted a bid.
