Group 1 success
for Tatts HIT graduate

Randwick: The Metropolitan (Group 1), 1m4f

GLENCADAM GOLD (4 g Refuse To Bend - Sandrella by Darshaan)

Bred by Roalso Ltd in Ireland

GLENCADAM Gold, a graduate of last year's Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale, led home a one-two for the late Darley stallion Refuse To Bend when successful in the Metropolitan at Randwick on Saturday.

Gai Waterhouse's gelding, who was trained last season by Sir Henry Cecil, led every step of the way under Tommy Berry to run out the easy from Kellini, also by Refuse To Bend.

Glencadam Gold is the third Group 1 winner by the multiple Group 1 winner Refuse To Bend following Sarafina and Wavering. Remarkably, Sarafina, Wavering, Glencadam Gold and Kellini are all out of Darshaan mares.

Refuse To Bend died earlier this year at Haras du Logis in France at the age of 12.

Glencadam Gold is a half-brother to five winners including the Listed-placed Mothman (by Barathea) and out of Sandrella, an unraced half-sister to Champion Stakes hero Storming Home.

He was purchased for 135,000gns by McKeever Bloodstock and Gai Waterhouse at last year's Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale.

IT'S A DUNDEEL (c High Chaparral - Stareel by Zabeel)

Bred by Mrs J & M Andersen in New Zealand

HIGH Chaparral's stellar year continued at Randwick on Saturday when It's A Dundeel recorded a narrow success over Proisir (by Choisir) in the Chandon Spring Champion Stakes. In the process, the three-year-old became High Chaparral's eighth Group/Grade 1 winner and third this year following So You Think and Wigmore Hall.

It's A Dundeel is also his sire's fifth southern hemisphere Group 1 winner.

High Chaparral stands the southern hemisphere season at Coolmore's Australian base for A$66,000.

Bred on the same High Chaparral - Zabeel cross as Group 2 winner Hidden Asset, It's A Dundeel is a half-brother to the Listed-placed Twoeezy. He is out of a daughter of New Zealand champion Staring.
