Group 1 success for Arqana Arc Sale entry

GIROLAMO looks set to be one of the star turns at next month's Arqana Arc Sale at Saint-Cloud after recording his first Group 1 success in the Preis Von Europa at the expense of Feuerblitz at Cologne on Sunday.

The Peter Schiergen-trained three-year-old, who is owned by breeder Gestut Ebbesloh, is lot 22 in the auction, which takes place on October 6.

Sunday's victory also saw him become the first Group 1 winner by Dai Jin, the 2003 Deutsches Derby hero whose previous leading performer was the Group 2 scorer Liang Kay.

A son of Peintre Celebre, Dai Jin is the sire of six stakes winners in total and stands at Gestut Erftmuhle in Germany for a private fee.

Girolamo is the latest accomplished performer out of his dam, the Listed-placed Golden Time. Eight of the nine runners out of the Surumu mare have won, among them the 2008 Italian Oaks heroine Goose Bay (by Groom Dancer) and the Listed-winning pair Grantsville (by Trempolino) and Go East (by Highest Honor).
