And I to Old Friends

GRADE 1 winner You And I, sireof the five-time Grade 1 heroine You, has been donated to the Old Friends retirement facility in Kentucky.

The 20-year-old son of Kris S has spent the past three seasons standing for $2,500 at Woodstead Farm in Washington. Prior to that, he stood at Airdrie Stud in Kentucky and Blooming Hills in California.

You and I was initally trained by Stanley Hough, who sent him out to win the Grade 2 Cowdin Stakes in 1993. He was later purchased privately by Edmund Gann and turned over to Bobby Frankel, who trained him to win the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap, Grade 2 Brooklyn Handicap and Grade 3 Riva Ridge Stakes in track-record time. He retired to stud in Kentucky in 1997 as the winner of six of 16 starts and just over $700,000 in prize-money.

In 2001, his daughter, You, assumed the mantle of representing Gann and Frankel at the highest level when taking the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes. She returned the following year to sweep the Las Virgene Stakes, SantaAnita Oaks, Acorn Stakes and Test Stakes.

You And I also sired In The Woods, winner of the Listed Empress Stakes at Newmarket in 2000.
