Purge off the mark

GRADE 1 Cigar Mile winner Purge became the latest freshman sire to get off the mark when Perfect Drive won a $40,000claimer at Arlington Park by nine lengths on Thursday.

Perfect Drive races as a homebred for JoAnn and Alex Lieblong and is the first foal out of the Grade 3 Iowa Oaks-placed mare Mary Alex, a daughter of Honour And Glory.

A dual Grade 2 winner at three, Purge peaked as a four-year-old to take the Cigar Mile by an impressive three-and-three-quarter lengths from Mass Media.

The son of Pulpit retired to Vinery in Kentucky as the winner of over $900,000 in earnings. He stood his first season at a fee of $20,000, which dropped to $12,500 this season.
