NEVER Retreat, winner of lastyear's Grade 1 First Lady Stakes, has been retired and will be covered by leading young American sire War Front.
The son of Danzig is the sire of ten stakeswinners and stands at Claiborne Farm in Kentucky for $60,000.
Never Retreat had been scheduled to make her final start for owner Team Block and trainer Chris Block in the Grade 3 Marshua's River Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Saturday. However, a foot problem hastened her retirement.
The seven-year-old daughter of Smart Strike won 11 of 32 starts including the Group 2 Canadian Stakes and Group 2 Smartly Stakes in addition to her success in the First Lady Stakes at Keeneland last November.
Bred in Kentucky by Gerry O'Meara and Stanley Inman, she is out of the Steady Growth mare Lisieux and a half sister to multiple stakes producer Laoub, the dam of last season's smart sprint juvenile Bannock.
