Grade1 dead-heat for Irish-bred filly Cambina

IRISH-bred Cambina, a daughter of Hawk Wing and winner of a Killarney maiden less than a year ago, graduated to Grade 1 success when dead-heating for the American Oaks.

Bred by Carradale Ltd, Cambina, who went on to a Listed placing at The Curragh,  ran in Ireland in the colours of Mrs John Magnier but was sold privately to race in the states after being withdrawn from Tattersalls horses in training sale last October. Her unraced dam Await, by Peintre Celebre, is a half-sister to Group 3 Prix Daphnis third Blanket Island and Del Mar Listed winner Lightning Hit. This is the family of  Group 3 sprinter Title Roll, Sandown Classic Trial winner Regime, and Jacqueline's Quest, disqualified first place in the 1,000 Guineas.

Cambina shared the spoils at Hollywood Park with Nereid, a daughter of Lane's End stallion Rock Hard Ten, sire of Godolphin filly Long Lashes.  Another resident of the  Kentucky farm,  Curlin's sire Smart Strike, struck on Saturday with Air Support in the Grade 2 Virginia Derby.

Nereid was bred by Mr. and Mrs. Emler Neuman in Kentucky and sold for $190,000 as a yearling at Keeneland in September 2009.
