Gone West reaches
100 stakes winners
THE late Gone West hit 100 stakes winners on Friday when the former Sir Michael Stoute-trained Treble Jig ran away with the Listed Jebel Ali Stakes at Jebel Ali.
Musabah Al Muhairi's five-year-old drew away to win the 1m2f event by ten lengths from Emmrooz at 25/1. The race took his record for connections to two wins from three starts since his £11,000 sale to Grove Stud at last year's DBS August Sale.
Bred by Juddmonte Farms, Treble Jig is the second foal out of the Grade 1 Yellow Ribbon Stakes Light Jig.
At the time of his death September 2009, 25-year-old Gone West had sired 98 stakes winners, among them European champion Zafonic, Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Speightstown and Belmont Stakes winner Commendable.
Gone West, who spent his entire stud career from 1988 to 2009 at Mill Ridge Farm in Kentucky, is also a formidable sire of sires with sons such as Elusive Quality, Mr Greeley, Speightstown and Zafonic each developing into successful stallions.
The last crop by the Grade 1-winning son of Mr Prospector are two-year-olds.
