Zamindar clocks first royal win with Timepiece

Sandringham Handicap (Listed), Ascot, 1m, 3yo fillies

TIMEPIECE (f Zamindar- Clepsydra by Sadler's Wells)

Breeder: Juddmonte Farms Ltd

JUDDMONTE sire Zamindar has many achievements at stud – not least supplying outstanding filly Zarkava – but until today his stud record lacked a Royal Ascot winner.

Timepiece, a strong fancy for the Oaks over the winter but a disappointing ninth when the big day at Epsom came, rectified the omission, seeming to relish a drop back to 1m when scoring in the Listed Sandringham Handicap.

Zamindar had come closeto a Royal Ascot winner when his daughter Darjina was a head second to Haradasun in the 2008 Queen Anne Stakes, and another daughter, Zenda, was beaten a quarter of a length into second in the 2002 Coronation Stakes.

A 16-year-old brother to brilliant 2,000 Guineas winner Zafonic by Gone West, Zamindar won the Group 3 Prix de Cabourg and was narrowly beaten in the Prix Morny at two. He stands at Juddmonte's Banstead Manor Stud at a fee of £15,000.

Timepiece's victory completed a fantastic day two of Royal Ascot for Juddmonte, after Zamindar's fellow Banstead Manor Stud residents Oasis Dream and Dansili provided the first two winners on the card (Rainfall in the Jersey Stakes and Strawberrydaiquiri in the Windsor Forest), and Khalid Abdullah owned the first two home in the Prince of Wales's Stakes, Byword and Twice Over.

TImepiece is out of the middle-distance-winning Sadler's Wells mare Clepsydra. The dam's previous progeny include high-class pair Father Time and Passage Of Time, both by Dansili.

Clepsydra is no stranger to Royal Ascot success, with Father Time landing the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes last year.

Clepsydra also has a two-year-old filly (named All Time) and a yearling colt by Dansili, and is back in foal to Zamindar this year.
