Kova siblings take
centre stage at Deauville

HALF-SIBLINGS Goldikova and Galikova take centre stage on a top-class card at Deauville today.

Champion Goldikova bids for an outstanding 15th Group 1 win in the Prix Jacques le Marois at 2.55pm, a race she won by six lengths in 2009 and ran second in 2010. The six-year-old mare is by the far the best performer sired by Haras du Quesnay's late Anabaa, who has been represented by 14 Group 1 winners overall.

Meanwhile, the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano at 2.20pm features a fascinating clash between Goldikova's younger half-sister Galikova and her Prix de Diane conqueror Golden Lilac. Galikova, who is one of 13 European stakes winners this year by Galileo, was successful in the Group 3 Prix Cleopatre prior to her Prix de Diane effort.

The Freddy Head-trained pair were bred by Wertheimer et Frere out of Born Gold, a 1m-winning daughter of Blushing Groom.

In addition to Goldikova and Galikova, Born Gold is also the dam of Group 3 winner Gold Sound (by Green Tune; dam of Group 3 winner Goldwaki) and the Group 3-placed pair Born Something (by Caerleon) and Red Tune (by Green Tune).

This is a family which is well known for producing exceptional fillies since Born Gold is a sister to Coronation Stakes winner Gold Splash and out of 1988 Prix Saint-Alary heroine Riviere d´Or, a daughter of champion Gold River.

The Wertheimer brothers have a yearling sister to Goldikova from Anabaa's final crop and a 2011 brother to Galikova, named Goldeo.
