Berties Dream win a breakthrough for sire

PROOF that Cheltenham offers an opportunity for anyone to taste glory came with the Albert Bartlett victory of Berties Dream, who provided a career defining moment for his sire Golden Tornado, who stands at Ireland's Gurteen Stud for a fee of just €500.

The son of Sadler's Wells has shown promise as a jumps sire from a small batch of runners - but none as headline-grabbing as Berties Dream, who was led out unsold as a yearling at Goffs at Ir£2,400 and is from the family of top hurdler Bannow Bay.

Berties Dream eased the pressure on Irish-breds in their battle with the French, increasing the score to 11 Irish-bred Festival wins to France's eight.
