Progeny of Mansonnien maintain hot run

Sunday; Leopardstown: Arkle Perpetual Challenge Cup Novice Chase (Grade 1) 2m1f

GOLDEN SILVER (Mansonnien - Gold Or Silver)

LESS than 48 hours after Mansony's success in the Grade 2 Normans Grove Chase at Fairyhouse, his sire, Mansonnien, was back in the spotlight courtesy of Golden Silver's upset success over Forpadydeplasterer in the Arkle Perpetual Challenge Cup.

The Willie Mullins- trained gelding was prominent throughout the four-runner event and after jumping the last fluently, had enough in reserve to repel the brave runner-up by a head.

A French-bred son of Tip Moss, Mansonnien enjoyed his finest hour when taking the Group 3 Prix Exbury at the age of six. However, he also ran third in the Group 1 Prix Ganay and retired as the French top-rated older horse over middle-distances in 1989.

Mansonnien has enjoyed a long and highly successful stud career in France, where last year he was crowned the leading jumps sire for the third time in five years.

In fact, last season alone saw him sire three Grade 1 winners over jumps, namely Mansony, Taranis and J'y Vole. In addition, he was represented by the Grade 2 Grand Steeple-Chase D'Enghien winner Millennium Royal in France.

Mansonnien was retired from stud duties in 2006 but is represented by several sons at stud including Grade 1 winner Bonbon Rose and Grade 2 winner Grand Seigneur.

Bred by Noel Pelat, who stood Mansonnien at Haras du Croix Sonnet, Golden Silver is out of the triple-winning Gold Or Silver and a brother to three-winning jumpers in France.
