Doncaster moves 2010 breeze-up saledate

DONCASTER Bloodstock Sale's 2010 dates have been published, with the most significant change being, for the first time, the move of its breeze-up sale to dates following Tattersalls' equivalent event.

The DBS breeze-up is scheduled to take place from April 19 to 21 next year, the week after Newmarket's flagship Craven two-year-old sale.

"If the sale had been held during the old dates itwould have meant people would have had to watch the breeze on Easter Monday, which we felt was not ideal," said DBS managing director Henry Beeby.

"Additionally a lot of buyers told us that it was much easier to get clients revved up for the sale once the turf season had begun and we should also have better ground to work the horses on by that time."

DBS became the first British company to stage a juvenile breeze-up in the 1970s, with the event held during the Lincoln meeting in March before recently moving to an early April date to avoid clashing with the Dubai World Cup meeting.

This year's sale featured a commendable 84 per cent clearance rate while the key figures fell by a respectable 15 and 18 per cent.

The Kempton Park breeze-up staged by DBS's parent company Goffs is set to retain its traditional early position in the calendar, due to take place next year on Friday, March 12.

Tattersalls Foal sale shortened
THIS year's December Foal Sale at Tattersalls is set to be a day shorter than 12 months ago. The sale will revert to its previous four-day format and run from Wednesday to Saturday, November 25 to 28.
