St Leger Yearling Stakes entries to close next week

ENTRIES for the 2009 renewal of the DBS £300,000 St Leger Yearling Stakes will close at noon on 6 January 2009.

The race has accrued a good reputation as a stepping stone for future Group 1 success in recent years, with subsequent 2,000 Guineas winner Cockney Rebel finishing second in the 2006 edition, subsequent Middle Park Stakes hero DarkAngel winning the 2007 race, and subsequent US Grade 1 winner Square Eddie finishing runner-up in this year's contest.

The DBS £300,000 St Leger Yearling Stakes is run at York over 6f on 20 August 2009, and is open to all yearlings who were sold at the St Leger Yearling Sales or the St Leger Festival Sales in 2008.

Any entries that are balloted out of the York contest are eligible for the £50,000 DBS St Leger Yearling Stakes, which is run over 6f at Ripon on 22 August 2009.
