Dutch Art colt tops breeze-up curtain-raiser

GOFFS' breeze-up sale at Kempton on Tuesday kicked off Europe's two-year-old auction season with a day that featured a strong middle market although no lot that ever threatened to hit six figures.

David Redvers, adding to the juvenile team of Sheikh Fahad Al-Thani's Pearl Bloodstock, took home the dearest offering, an £80,000 Dutch Art colt from the family of Airwave for whom another Qatari buyer, Ibrahim Al Malki with advisor Conrad Allen, showed a strong interest.

"I'll talk to Sheikh Fahad and decide on a trainer in the next few days," said Redvers. "We have 35 two-year-olds for Pearl Bloodstock and it will probably be 40 by the end of the breeze-ups. This fellow looked the complete package, he was just all speed and breezed in a phenomenal time. He galloped like a racehorse and is by a champion first-season sire.

"He had a touch of sore shins after breezing so he will be asearly
as can be, allowing for that."

The Dutch Art colt had been bought for vendor Norman Williamson by Mags O'Toole for £30,000 as a yearling and she had also picked up the second dearest offering last autumn.

He was a Harlan's Holiday who had realised $45,000 at Keeneland in September and £70,000 yesterday when offered from Eddie O'Leary's Lynn Lodge Stud and bought for British Horseracing Authority chairman Paul Roy by Jane Allison, who was underbidder on the top lot.

"He is going to Ed Dunlop and Paul has been lucky with American-breds such as Sarava and Wilko," said Hugo Merry, who bid on Allison's behalf. "We just thought he was one of thenicest colts here."

Roy came to the sale later on and bought a £50,000 Tapit colt out of Grade 1-placed Baroness Thatcher although no decision on a trainer has been taken.
