GO NATIVE (6 g Double Eclipse - Native Idea)

DOUBLE Eclipse spent much of his racing career in the shadow of his older brother Double Trigger, but it was his turn to hit the big time on Tuesday when Go Native gave him a first Grade 1 success in this year's Festival opener.

Double Eclipse was a high-class stayer on the Flat for Mark Johnston, taking the Group 2 Vicomtesse Vigier and a pair of Group 3 events. He also memorably ran second by a neck to his more celebrated brother in the 1995 Group 2 Goodwood Cup.

Double Eclipse stood for several seasons at Ballyash Stud in Northern Ireland, from where he sired Go Native and Grade 3-winning juvenile hurdler Cupla Cairde. The son of Ela-Mana-Mou moved to Steeple Stud for the 2007 season after selling for €108,000 at the 2006 Goresbridge November Sale.

However, a season later, he was on the move again, this time to Deelside Stud, where he is standing this season for €1,000.

Although, Steeple no longer stand Double Eclipse, they recently imported Medaaly, who sired the second horse home, Medermit.

Bred by P. J. Murphy in Ireland, Go Native is the only winner out of the unraced Be My Native mare Native Idea. He was led out unsold at €17,000 at the 2006 Tattersalls Ireland August National Hunt Sale.

Go Native has a yearling filly by Winged Love.
