Vodka scanned in foal to Sea The Stars

VODKA, the outstanding Japanese race mare whose seven Group 1 wins ensured she became the highest-earning female racehorse of all time, has been scanned in foal to Sea The Stars.

A statement from the Aga Khan Studs – under whose banner history-making Sea The Stars is standing his first season at stud – said: "[Vodka] arrived at Gilltown Stud in mid March but she took time to let down from her racing career, which meant she did not immediately go in foal.

"However, Vodka has now joined the long list of Group 1-winning mares in foal to Sea The Starsthat includes Zarkava, Speciosa, Love Divine and Look Here."

Vodka, a six-year-old daughter of Tanino Gimlet, won at least one Group 1 race in her native Japan in each season at two, three, four and five.

Her finest moment came in last year's Japan Cup, which she won by a nose, with top-class international raiders including Conduit and Just As Well behind.

Vodka was retired in March after disappointing in the Al Maktoum Challenge at Meydan, with career earnings of over 1.3 billion yen (around £8,750,000, €10,500,000).
