Rags To Riches produces her first foal

RAGS TO RICHES, the 2007 Belmont Stakes heroine and that year's US champion three-year-old filly, gave birth to her first foal at Ashford Stud in Kentucky on Monday.

The new arrival is a filly by Ashford Stud resident Giant's Causeway. The farm's general manager Dermot Ryan told the Blood-Horse: "She had a nice filly foal. All is good, mother and daughter and doing very well."

Owned by Derrick Smith and Michael Tabor, Rags To Riches bravely outbattled Curlin to become the first filly to win the third leg of the US triple crown in 102 years.

She is a daughter of A.P. Indy and the exceptional broodmare Better Than Honour, making her a half-sister to 2006 Belmont Stakes winner Jazil and last year's impressive Peter Pan Stakes winner Casino Drive.

A three-year-old son of Giant's Causeway and Better Than Honour is in training with Aidan O'Brien. Named Man Of Iron, he finished unplaced behind Rip Van Winkle on his sole start at two last year.
