Giant presence in
Copa Bullrich catalogue

NINE yearlings from the first Argentinean crop of leading Coolmore sire Giant's Causeway will be some of highlights of the Copa Bullrich Yearling Sale in Buenes Aires, Argentina, on May 8-9.

The sales company has hand-picked 74 yearlings for the select opening day of the auction, which was launched six years ago by Antonio Bullrich.  Previously, horses were sold at auctions conducted by individual farms but buying at public auction continues to gain popularity, especially as each of the lots catalogued to the Copa Bullrich Sale have been eligible for the sale company's lucrative race series, a concept modelled on the Goffs Millions.

Last year's sale was a strong renewal with the top-price colt, a son of Tiznow, selling to agent John Fulton for a record 640,000 pesos (£102,842/€121,815). Newmarket-based McKeever Bloodstock was the underbidder.

The yearlings by Giant's Causeway result from the stallion's first season at La Mission in Argentina, when he covered 152 mares that produced 115 foals.

French shuttler Orpen has three yearlings catalogued while those by leading Kentucky sires such as Awesome Again, El Prado, Malibu Moon and Tiznow are also entered.
