Causeway all the rage at Copa Bullrich again

JUST AS on the first day, progeny from the first South American-bred crop of Giant's Causeway dominated Monday's second session of South America's biggest yearling auction, the Copa Bullrich Sale in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The sire's daughter out of the unraced Unbridled's Song mare Inthecoolofthenite topped the session when selling to Esther Fernandez for 280,000 Argentinean Pesos (£42,050, €47,780). The filly was consigned by Haras Chenaut and is from the family of Grade 1 scorer Ops Smile.

Another Giant's Causeway brought the second-highest price of the day. George Hills, a son of leading British trainer Barry and a representative for Copa Bullrich, signed for a daughter of the Southern Halo mare La Piaff from the family of Argentinean Group winner Sa Torreta at 255,000 Argentinean Pesos (£38,300, €43,500).

‘Iron Horse' Giant's Causeway, whose progeny include Classic winners Footstepsinthesand, Ghanaati and Shamardal, shuttled to La Mission stallion station near Buenos Aires for the first time for the 2008 southern-hemisphere breeding season.

Reiley McDonald of US consignors Eaton Sales paid 230,000 Argentinean Pesos (£34,500, €39,000) for an Honour And Glory colt out of a Ride The Rails mare closely related to Pacific Classic winner and exciting young Kentucky sire Candy Ride.

The second session of the three-day sale recorded turnover of 5,338,000 Argentinean Pesos (£801,670, €910,970) for 47 horses sold, making an average of 113,574 Argentinean Pesos (£17,050, €19,380).
