Grade 1 winner Red Giant to Hill 'n' Dale
GRADE 1 winner Red Giant has been retired and will stand the 2009 season at Hill 'n' Dale Farm in Kentucky for $7,500. The five-year-old is the second son of Giant's Causeway to retire to John Sikura's operation this year following Heatseeker.
Red Giant peaked last year under the care of Todd Pletcher when taking the Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch Memorial Turf Championship - in which he set anew track record over Santa Anita's 1m2f turf course - and the Grade 2 Fourstardave Handicap at Saratoga. He retires as the winner of six races and nearly $1.1m in earnings.
"By the fantastic sire Giant's Causeway, Red Giant hails from one of the most successful pedigrees in the stud book" said Sikura. "There is no reason why he should not become an important sire."
A $350,000 purchase as a yearling at the Keeneland September Sale, Red Giant is out of the stakes-placed Kingmambo mare Beyond The Sun. His fourth dam is Royal Statute, also the ancestress of Hector Protector, Bosra Sham and Lammtarra.
