Man Of Iron purchased to stand at stud in Peru

MAN OF IRON, winnerof the 2009 Breeders' Cup Marathon at Santa Anita, will enter stud at the Haras San Pablo in Peru after being purchased privately by the Irrigacion Santa Rosa and the Haras Los Azahares.

The five-year-old son of Giant's Causeway was sold as a stallion prospect at this year's Tattersalls July Sale for 55,000gns.

Bred in the purple, Man Of Iron is out of Grade 1-placed Better Than Honour and is thus a half-sister to Belmont Stakes winners in Jazil and Rags To Riches, as well as Grade 2 Peter Pan Stakes scorer Casino Drive.

Better Than Honour is in turn out of Kentucky Oaks winner Blush With Pride and from the family of El Gran Senor and Redoute's Choice.

Man Of Iron began his career with Aidan O'Brien, for whom he won a 1m maiden and the Breeders' Cup Marathon at three.

At four he was switched to Luca Cumani and his best run that season was a third in the Listed Fred Archer Stakes.
