Further Stonerside success for Darley

FORMER Stonerside mares were to the fore for Darley for the second time within a week on Monday when the John Gosden-trained Ghostwriting got up to deny Juno The Muffinman on his debut at Wolverhampton.

Ghostwriting's victory follows that in a Newmarket maiden on Friday of Discourse, a Street Cry half-sister to Blue Grass Stakes winner Bandini who was produced out of former Stonerside mare Divine Dixie.

Ghostwriting is a rare European representative of American Horse of the Year Ghostzapper, who stands at Adena Springs in Kentucky, and a half-brother to Grade 3 winner Stormalory. The pair are out of Miss Halory, a winning half-sister to Group/Grade 2 winners Van Nistelrooy and Halory Hunter.

Sheikh Mohammed's acquisition of Robert and Janice McNair's Stonerside Stable in September 2008 provided an immediate return when Raven's Pass, in whom he already owned a share, won the Breeders' Cup Classic and Midshipman won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

Since then, Sheikh Mohammed or Godolphin have campaigned a number of talented Stonerside-breds including White Moonstone, Irish Oaks second Miss Jean Brodie, Grade 1-placed Sangaree and the Group 3 winner Charity Belle.

Stonerside was established by the McNairs in 1994 with the assistance of manager of John Adger and swiftly became aleader in US horse racing as the breeder of Grade 1 winners such as Congaree and The Cliff's Edge.

At the time of its sale in 2008, the operation numbered 250 head of stock, a farm encompassing more than 1,500 acres of Kentucky land and a training centre in South Carolina.
