Martillo on move to stud in south-west France

HIGH-CLASS miler Martillo is moving to Haras des Fontaines in south-west France, after three-years spent at stud inGermany.

A son of Anabaa, Martillo was trained by Ralf Suerland to win six Group 2 races over 1m between the ages of three and five, as well as reach the places in the St James's Palace Stakes and the Premio Vittorio di Capuo.

Originally retired to the Haras des Chartreux in France, he moved in 2008 to Gestüt Zoppenbroich. His best progeny to date is Oekaki, beaten under a length into second by Announce in the Listed Prix de Thiberville in July.

Martillo is out of the Affirmed mare Maltage and is a half-brother to this year's Mark Johnston-trained juvenile winner Malthouse.

His stud fee for next year has been set at €2,500.
