Large fee increase
for Samum

GERMANY'S Gestüt Karlshof has announced that the fee for its star stallion Samum will be increased from €10,000this year to €25,000 in 2009.

The 11-year-old son of Monsun has had an excellent season, thanks to his German Derby winner Kamsin, who also won two other Group 1 races, and his daughter Baila Me, who won the Preis von Europa.

Two of Samum's yearlings made in excess of €200,000 in the ring at Baden-Baden earlier this year.

Bruno Faust, the owner of Karlshof, has shown enormous faith in Samum since the horse's retirement to stud, sending him many of his best mares - he was responsible for breeding both Kamsin and Baila Me.

Samum was also bred by Karlshof, and in a stellar career won the German Derby and the Grosser Preis von Baden. His brother Schiaparelli wonthe German Derby, and a further three Group 1 races last year at four, and his sister Salve Regina won the Preis der Diana.
