Bellvano gives his sire Silvano a timely boost

BELLVANO, a five-year-old gelding trained by Nicky Henderson for Susan Magnier, ran out a seven-length winner of the bumper at Newbury today.

He provided a timely reminder of the talents of his sire Silvano, who on Wednesday arrived back at his original base, Gestut Fahrhof  in north Germany, after a spell at Maine Chance Farm in South Africa.

A son of Lomitas, the globe-trotting Silvano won seven races including the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup and the Arlington Million. His first crop hit the track in 2005, and his best runners to date include the Coronation Stakes runner-up Mi Emma and the US Grade 2 winner Proudinsky.

Besides Bellvano, he has another promising young National Hunt performer in the shape of Bergo, who currently holds a choice of six engagements for Cheltenham.

Silvano's fee at Fahrhof this year has been set at €8,000, and his book of mares includes Calder Oaks heroine I C Cindy and La Virginia, the dam of Deutsches Derby winner Lavirco. He is expected to return to South Africa after the forthcoming northern-hemisphere breeding season.
