Date With Destiny set for Tatts December Sale

DATE With Destiny, the only horse sired by the ill-fated 2,000 Guineas winner George Washington, is set to be offered at the Tattersalls December Sale.

The decision is in line with the policy of her owner, Julie Wood, who sells her horses during their racing careers, usually at the end of their three-year-old season.

According to Wood, there was never any temptation to makethree-year-old Date With Destiny - purchased through Peter Doyle for 320,000gns at the 2009 Tattersalls October Sale - an exception.

"With a filly like her, you've got to take everything into consideration but our policy has always been to sell the horses rather than go into breeding," said Wood. "The December Sale is the right opportunity to move her on and we hope that whoever buys her will appreciate her as much as we have."

Date With Destiny made the perfect start to her career for trainer Richard Hannon when successful on her juvenile debut at Newbury and added black-type to her record earlier this year when thirdin the Lingfield Oaks Trial.

She has made seven starts to date and will be sold out of Hannon's East Everleigh Stables as a filly in training.

"She has always been a public horse," said Wood. "I still get letters wishing her well and continue to keep in touch with her followers.

"When we bought her, we wanted to enjoy her whatever her ability. It was very exciting when she won on her debut and at her peak, she was rated 96. She's a filly with great presence and character, and has given us enormous pleasure.

"If we can find the right race, she'll run for us again before she sells. She's sound so could race on again next year."

Date With Destiny would made a fine addition to any broodmare band as not only is she the only offspring sired by George Washington but also a half-sister to Group 3 winner Ombre Legre and the Group 1-placed Flawly, dam of Prix du Jockey Club runner-up Best Name.

She is out of Flawlessly, a placed daughter of Rainbow Quest.
