Date With Destiny makes perfect racecourse debut

GEORGE Washington's only produce, the filly Date With Destiny, made a taking debut in the Christal Management EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Newbury.

Despite a slightly slow exit from the stalls, the Richard Hannon-trained filly, owned by Julie Wood, travelled strongly throughout and stuck to her task well in the closing stages.

Her dam, the French-bred Flawlessly, was a maiden and a half-sister to Video Rock who became distinguished as a jumps sire. Flawlessly has produced 11 previous foals, included French Group 3 winner Ombre Legere.

Date With Destiny was sold at Goffs as a foal for €280,000, and again as a yearling when bought by Peter Doyle at Tattersalls for 320,000gns.

Hannon said: "We're delighted with that. Perfect, because that was the perfectstart for her. We'll take it easy and not rush her back, with perhaps one more run this year."

Jockey Richard Hughes added: "They went a strong gallop and I was always pretty confident of picking them off. She was only greenwhen hitting the front and you would expect that on her first run. It was a great start but we'll now put her back to sleep before her next run."
