Imperial Cup glory for Aga Khan family

THE Aga Khan-bred Alarazi landed the Imperial Cup at Sandown on Saturday, the son of Spectrum proving himself another smart hurdler by his former Ballymacoll stallion.

Spectrum, winner of the Irish 2,000 Guineas, has produced Triumph Hurdle winner Spectroscope and Punchestown Champion Novice Hurdle scorer Glencove Marina. His best sons to race on the Flat include, Gamut and Golan, now jumps sires.

Alarazi was sold for €50,000 at the Goffs November Horses In Training sale. He was resold, having won once over 1m and placed in Group 2 and 3 company, for 38,000gns at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training sale.

His dam, Alaya, produced Triumph Hurdle third Alaivan, by Kalanisi, and Group 3 winner Alayan, by Sri Pekan. Alaya is a half-sister to Irish Derby winner Alamshar.
