Further reason to lament early loss of Pistolet Bleu

SIZING EUROPE (10 g Pistolet Bleu - Jennie Dun)

Bred by Mrs Angela Bracken in Ireland

SIZING Europe once again provided reason to lament the relatively short life of his sire Pistolet Bleu on Sunday by running out the 15-length winner over Big Zeb in the Tied CottageChase.

Pistolet Bleu, winner of the Criterium de Saint-Cloud and Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, had finished covering his first Irish book as a Coolmore jumps stallion when he suffered from colic and died aged 13.

The son of Top Ville's previous crops sired in France yielded Triumph Hurdle winner Katarino and Christmas Hurdle scorer Geos.

His sole Irish-sired crop - now ten-year-olds - also includes Grade 2-winning hurdler I'msingingtheblues and Jewson Novices' Handicap Chase winner Copper Bleu.

Sizing Europe was bred by Angela Bracken out of the unraced Mandalus mare Jennie Dun. His half-brother The Spoonplayer, also trained by Henry de Bromhead, has won four races.

Bracken sold Sizing Europe as a foal for €9,000 at the 2002 Tattersalls Ireland November sale.

TRIFOLIUM (5 g Goldneyev - Opium Des Mottes)

Bred by Haras de la Rousseliere Scea and J. Poirier in France

GOLDNEYEV produced a high-class Flat runner and stallion in Gold Away and now looks to have left behind a potentially top-class hurdler in Trifolium, who slammed the opposition to win the MoscowFlyer Hurdle at Punchestown on Sunday.

Trifolium share his sire, the 1989 Poule d'Essai des Poulains runner-up, with Usual Suspects, who recently ran third in the Grade 1 Prix Cambaceres Hurdle at Auteuil, and the Grade 2-winning jumper Lord Carmont.

The Group-1 placed  Gold Away, whose son Full Of Gold stands as a dual-purpose stallion at Haras de l'Abbaye, and the Group 2-winning sprinter Dananeyev head his Flat runners.

Goldneyev, a son of Nureyev and the Arc heroine Gold River, died at Haras de Mirande in 2010 at the age of 24.

Trifolium is the only winner from two known foals out of the unraced Opium Des Mottes. The daughter of April Night, a Listed-winning son of Kaldoun, is a half-sister to five minor winners in France.
