French trainer Lellouche makes his mark - but this time as a breeder

FRENCH trainer Elie Lellouche claimed a notable scalp - but this time as a breeder - when Binocular triumphed in the Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle.

Lellouche was  the trainer in the early career of Binocular and also of Pistolet Bleu, who left his own stamp on the first day of the Festival as the broodmare sire of Binocular and the sire of Arkle Chase winner Sizing Europe.

By the sprinter Enrique, a son of Barathea who stands at the Haras de Hoguenet, Binocular's pedigree is full of classy flat performers. Enrique, bred by the Niarchos family, is out of the talented Gwydion, who comes from the family of the Clive Brittain-trained trio of Luso, Warrsan, and Needle Gun as well as Derby winner Kris Kin.
