French-bred Zagora strikes in Gallorette

LAST year's Grade 1 Diana Stakes heroine Zagora added a third Grade 3 to her 2012 account on Saturday when coming from off the pace to take the Gallorette Handicap at Pimlico by a length and three-quarters.

It was the eighth win in 18 starts for the French-bred Zagora, who is closing in on the $1 million barrier by earnings.

Trained by Chad Brown on behalf of Martin Schwartz, Zagora shares her sire, the 1994 Poule d'Essai des Poulains winner Green Tune, with the Group 1-winning miler Fuisse and Italian Group 1 winner Lune d'Or. Green Tune, a son of Green Dancer, died at the age of 20 at Haras d'Etreham early in 2011.

Bred by Eric Puerai and Oceanic Bloodstock in France, Zagora is a half-sister to the Listed-placed Zanet (by Enrique) and out of Zagora, an unraced Mtoto half-sister to the Group 3-placed Zanyboy. She descends from Party Doll, the dam of Titus Livius and Briseida while further back it is the family of Sulamani.

Zagora was purchased by Suprina for €95,000 at the 2008 Arqana August Sale.
