TWICE OVER (5yo b c Observatory - Double Crossed, by Caerleon)

Breeder: Juddmonte Farms in Great Britain

APTLY NAMED Twice Over pulled off a double-double by convincingly winning Saturday's Champion Stakes.

The five-year-old entire had landed the race last year, and his owner-breeder Khalid Abdullah had won the other Group 1 on the card, the Dewhurst, with brilliant juvenile Frankel.

Twice Over is the best runner sired by Observatory, whose own finest hour on the track came when pulling off a surprise victory over Giant's Causeway in the 2000 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.

Observatory's other standard bearers are Juddmonte-bred sisters African Rose (winner of the Haydock Sprint Cup) and Helleborine (runner-up in this month's Prix Marcel Boussac).

Twice Over is the first foal out of Listed Lingfield Oaks Trial winner Double Crossed, a half-sister to Clepsydra, the dam of Father Time, Passage Of Time and Timepiece.

Frankel and Twice Over continue an annus mirabilis for Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte Farms. The operation has also owned and bred the 2010 Group 1 winners Byword, Midday, Redwood, Special Duty and Workforce.
