Frankel to stand first season for £125,000

A STUD fee of £125,000 has been set by Juddmonte Farms for the mighty Frankel, who last night was crowned the Cartier Horse of the Year for the second consecutive season.

The four-year-old son of Galileo returned last week to his birthplace Banstead Manor Stud, where he will stand alongside leading sires Dansili and Oasis Dream.

His fee is a figure which reflects a glittering unbeaten career in which he won 14 races for Sir Henry Cecil. Ten of those successes came at the top level, among them the 2,000 Guineas, Dewhurst Stakes, Juddmonte International and Champion Stakes.

He also boasts a top-class pedigree being by Galileo, whose sons at stud include the Group 1-producing pair New Approach and Teofilo,  and out of Listed-winning sprinter Kind. By Danehill, Kind is a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Powerscourt and also the dam of this season's Gordon Stakes winner Noble Mission, also by Galileo, and Lingfield Derby Trial scorer Bullet Train, by Sadler's Wells.

Explaining the decision, Juddmonte Farms' general manager Philip Mitchell said: "The fee for Frankel reflects his merits as being perhaps the greatest racehorse we have ever witnessed. He is by Galileo, who is now recognised as the best sire in the world, and out of Kind, a winner of six races (from five to seven furlongs) and herself a daughter of one of the most influential stallions in the history of thoroughbred breeding, Danehill."

Dansili and Oasis Dream to stand for £80,000

BANSTEAD MANOR Stud stalwarts Dansili and Oasis Dream will each stand for £80,000 next season.

The fee represents minor adjustments for both stallions. In the case of Dansili, whose roll of honour this season includes the Group 1 winners Giofra, Fallen For You and The Fugue, it is a small rise from the £75,000 he commanded this season. As for Oasis Dream, the sire of this year's Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Power, it represents a minor drop from £85,000.

New recruit Bated Breath, the winner of this year's Temple Stakes who was Group 1-placed on five occasions, will stand his first season alongside his sire Dansili for £8,000.

Champs Elysees, whose first crop race next year, and Arc winner Rail Link, have each had their fees dropped to £5,000 while Zamindar remains unchanged at £10,000.

Philip Mitchell, Juddmonte Farms' general manager at its Banstead Manor Stud, said: "We believe our stallion roster is the best we have been able to offer breeders - and we are very excited with both of our new arrivals.

"Bated Breath will give breeders the opportunity to use a most genuine sprinter who was placed second in four Group 1 races. Ironically, his father Dansili started his career at the same fee and he also just failed to win a Group 1 race. "

Mitchell added: "We have made minor adjustments to the fees of our two major stalwarts Dansili and Oasis Dream as we believe both of these world-class sires to be equally successful.

"Zamindar's fee remains unaltered at £10,000 (SLF) and he continues to be as reliable as ever with 11 new ‘black-type' performers this year.

"Rail Link has had a slight reduction to reflect the preference for speed. However, with five individual ‘Black Type' performers this year, including the runner-up in the Group 1 Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris and the Group 2 Italian Derby, his future remains bright.

"Champs Elysees ' first crop of yearlings averaged £17,479 but there is now the inevitable wait until he has his first runners - although our home-breds suggest we can be very bullish in this respect."

All fees are on special live terms.
