FRANKEL (b c Galileo - Kind, by Danehill)

Breeder: Juddmonte Farms in Great Britain

GALILEO’S terrific association with the Dewhurst Stakes continues, with Frankel following in the hoofprints of Teofilo and New Approach to become the superstar stallion’s third son to maintain his unbeaten record in the Dubai-sponsored race.

To underline his brilliance, Galileo also supplied the runner-up to Frankel, Ballydoyle raider Roderic O’Connor.

And it will not have escaped breeders’ attention that Frankel, Roderic O’Connor and Teofilo are all out of Danehill mares, in what is developing into a conspicuously successful nick.

Frankel – who, with Emirates Airline Champion Stakes hero Twice Over, continued a fantastic year for their owner-breeder Khalid Abdullah - becomes Galileo's 18th individual Group 1 winner and the seventh in 2010. The rate at which Galileo is rattling off top-class horses is becoming more and more reminiscent of his own breed-shaping sire, Sadler’s Wells.

Frankel’s pedigree gives slightly mixed messages: his dam, Kind, was a Listed winner over 5f and 6f, but is a half-sister to top-class middle-distance horse Powerscourt (by Sadler’s Wells, so bred along similar lines to Frankel) and out of Lancashire Oaks winner Rainbow Lake.

Although that makes it hard to be dogmatic about Frankel’s optimum trip next year, it does give rise to the hope he may be versatile enough to excel over a wide range of distances.
