Adena Springs top breeder for seventh year
ADENA Springs has been named North America's leading individual breeder by progeny earnings in 2009.
It is the seventh consecutive year that the Frank Stronach-owned operation, which has farms in Kentucky and Canada, has been awarded the title.
Individually, Adena Springs bred the winners of 568 races from 3,903 starts, for total earnings of $12,853,329. Among the Adena Springs-bred horses who contributed most to the haul in 2009 were Graded stakes winners Bay To Bay, Fatal Bullet and My Princess Jess.
Eugene Melnyk bred the winners of 291 races from 1,588 starts for earnings of $7,513,369 to finish second behind Adena Springs. The flagbearer for Melnyk's breeding programme was Grade 2 Sky Classic Stakes winner Marchfield.
Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte breeding operation was a close third, breeding the winners of $7,055,634 in prize-money.
