France Haras sires up
for lease not sale

NETWORK, the sire of Champion Chase hero Sprinter Sacre, will be available for lease – not for sale – following a change of heart by the French government.

It was announced in June that Network and his fellow French National Stud stallions were to be offered at the Arqana December Breeding-Stock Sale as part of a complete dispersal of the France Haras stock, but after negotiations between breeders’ representatives and minister for agriculture Stephane Le Foll, the state has decided to remain owner of the stallions but offer them for lease.

Jacques Myard, the deputy mayor of Maisons-Laffitte, along with two breeders’ representatives, negotiated with Le Foll.

“After a number of conversations and discussions, the minister has decided to offer the stallions for lease while remaining the property of the state,” Myard told French media.

Other stallions who could be available for lease include Montmartre, winner of the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris, and Policy Maker, sire of Roll On Has, who defeated the likes of Abbyssial in a Grade 1 hurdle at Auteuil in Paris last time out.
